Tuesday Tip- off: Coriander

Coriander

Popular across many cultures for various uses,
coriander essential oil is extracted from the
seed of the coriander plant. Coriander’s
healthful therapeutic benefits, which can be
attributed to its extremely high linalool content,
range from digestive support to supporting a
healthy insulin response.
Coriander oil is included in the DigestZen® blend.

Typical Applications
The aroma is soothing to some and may be used for its soothing properties by diffusion. Consider as a rotation oil used with other oils to add variety for not only the aromatic benefit but the antibacterial properties as well.
It may be applied directly (neat) for help with muscle pain or for rheumatism and directly on the abdomen or back for digestive difficulties. For digestive difficulties, it may be taken internally mixed with water or other liquids with honey or agave added to sweeten the taste.
Coriander oil is rated as GRAS by the FDA and can be safely used for internal consumption.
Additional Information
"Coriander is distilled from the seed of Cilantro but they are not dried seeds, in order to get the largest amount of oils out of them. This also makes the smell of the Coriander oils fresh just like Cilantro. As opposed to opening a bottle of Coriander seed from your spice rack. The smell is much different."  Dr. David Hill, 2009

"The Bomb"

I love doTERRA Essential oils. I love them because they work. I have had successes first hand with multiple oils. It is even more exciting to hear success stories from others. I have shared many samples to see how they work on different people and different people. One person confirmed instant relief from a migraine using PastTense. Another has been suffering joint pain for years and with deep blue the pain disappeared. And the flu was knocked out by using a doTERRA "flu bomb."

After a few days of feeling congested, fevers, nasal drainage, chills, body aches, and a sore throat a friend wanted to try some oils. After taking “The Bomb” She was feeling better.

Tuesday Tip- off: Bergamot

Bergamot
Originally this fruit was harvested from the northern Italian city of Bergamo and it was only used for medicinal purposes in the local region until rather recently. The tree is of the citrus variety with a small Orange-like fruit. The peel is cold pressed to obtain the oils. The lower grade oil extractions are very commonly used in the perfume industry.

Historically, in Italy, it was used for fevers and digestive tract problems. More recently it has been shown to be effective in treating urinary tract infections, has excellent properties for skin care, and like many citrus oils is calming and therefore helpful with anxiety and depression.

Many find the aroma of this oil pleasing and diffuse it to help with anxiety or depression. Cup and inhale and other inhalation techniques would apply as well.

For skin problems such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis Bergamot may prove helpful in conjunction with other oils. It should be remembered that in high concentration and repeated useage, this oil can be a skin irritant but in modest useage it is very helpful for skin problems.

The oil is rated as GRAS by the FDA and can safely be used for internal consumption.

Precautions:   Bergamot is photosensitive so if used topically on the skin the area should not be exposed to sunlight or ultraviolet light for 12 hours to avoid severe burning.

Blogging my oil journey

Last year I went to a craft and came across a table set up and sharing these amazing oils. In the brief 10 minutes I was there I was hooked. The ladies were so kind and the oils were fantastic and I was only sampling. We booked a class to learn more and see what doTERRA was all about.

The class was wonderful. Learning about oils and how I can benefit from using them. doTERRA oils are the highest grade oils on the market. They are all 3rd party tested and if one imperfection is found the entire batch is thrown out. The high concentration makes them powerful, lasting, and I feel more cost effective. At the time of the class I was struggling with my daughter. She was having high anxiety and not sleeping. The previous suggestions were melatonin to help her sleep and I was weary. The doTERRA consultant suggested Lavender oil. I tried it for a week as a skeptic, and it worked!! I felt like I had a calm, relaxed and rested child. She loved it too. The few drops at night was enough to get me hooked and then I wanted more!!

After joining the doTERRA team I was able to play with more oils. There are SO many choices. I started with only the lavender oil then the 3 pack and most recently the family physician kit. I use peppermint for upset tummies and headaches and even in my hot chocolate. Lavender is used in my house daily to relax my family and help my daughter with her emotions and sleeping. Lemon is great to clean with. I add a drop on my tooth brush after each use, I add it to a load of laundry, I put a few drops in my mopping solution and also after I am done. I keep finding new was to make my family’s health better, my cleaning safer and more effective and my life better. This is my journey and tips along the way.
